Western Care Lodge

John Davis Launches Care West Lodge Western Care Lodge (formerly CareWest Lodge), commissioned in September 2011, is the major project of Cancer Care Western NSW.

The lodge project was formally launched in February 2008 by Orange Mayor John Davis.

The Radiotheraphy Alliance was formed by Orange City Council and Mayor John Davis in late Novemeber 2006. From this, Cancer Care Western NSW was formed in January 2007, and obtained fundraising status in March 2007.

The aims of this charity organisation are to:

Lobby for radiotherapy services through government.
Raise funds for on site accomodation for patients.
Provide scholarships for local students to train in radiation therapy and oncology training.

In September 2011:

Radiotherapy Services have been achieved,
Stage 1 of the accomodation has been achieved,
Stage 2 fundraising has begun.

These three key people are supported by an enthusiastic local committee that meets monthly in Orange. They, in turn, are supported by equally enthusiastic fundraising groups in the towns surrounding Orange and Dubbo.

Cancer Care Western NSW

State One of the accomodation provides fourteen ensuite bedrooms, each with its own small balcony room, including a manager's room. A communal, state-of-the-art service area kitchen, communal living area, library and office are also provided.

Spacious outdoor areas situated within easy walking distance to the hospital are conducive to relaxation and providing valuable support. The outdoor areas and garden are set amongst mature, heritage listed gardens and trees, and upgrades were provided for the community by the Tooheys New Crew in August 2011. These included arial roof coverage for the patio areas, as well as an outdoor pergola and seating areas. The accomodation is for an adult patient and carer, and the complex is situated adjacent to eating and golf facilities.

Western Care Lodge was the winner of the State Tidy Towns Award for 2011 for design and attention to heritage and environmental services.

The Orange General Hospital provides state-of-the-art surgical, medical, diagnostic, mental health, renal, heart services, and complete cancer services. With a medical service catchment area of 300,000 people, the hospital contains the most up to date equipment, and is a short distance from the accomodation. Pathway linkages provide ease of access.
