CareWest Lodge

John Davis Launches Care West Lodge Care West Lodge is the major $2 million project for Cancer Care Western NSW. It was officially launched by John Davis the Mayor of Orange in Feb 2008.

The aims of this charity organisation are:

Lobby NSW Health for local Radiotherapy
Raise funds for on-site accommodation
Provide scholarships for local students to train in radiation therapy & oncology nursing.

These three key people are supported by an enthusiastic local committee that meets monthly in Orange. They, in turn, are supported by equally enthusiastic fundraising groups in the towns surrounding Orange and Dubbo.

Cancer Care Western NSW

The opening of the new Orange Hospital, in late 2010, will provide "state of the art" surgical, medical, diagnostic, mental health and cancer services. The adjacent CareWest Lodge will provide accommodation and support for rural patients.

Stage 1 will provide accommodation for 14 rural patients and their carers. There will be two self-contained accommodation units providing 7 twin rooms with a separate communal kitchen and laundry facility. A separate building will contain administration, lounge and library facilities.

Depending on demand, Stage 2 will provide another building of 7 self-contained units at a later stage.

The mutual support and friendships established in such facilities provide valuable support during and after patients' treatment programs.
